Jolicure Cats Honoured
On November 21, 2010, in White Plains, New York, author Lorrie Bell Hawkins took home 5 awards at the Cat Writers Association's 17th annual awards banquet for her book Jolicure Cats.
Two Certificates of Excellence and two Muse Medallions were awarded to Bell Hawkins in the categories of books (memoir) and illustration. In addition, the book received the coveted Kuykendall Image Award:
Judge Barbara Gottlieb's comments: "Jolicure Cats had all of the winning elements to be my first choice. As a whole it was a very warm and interesting story about one person's experiences with many different cat personalities. How different yet how similar they were and how much she loved them all even when they were "bad kitties"... or should I say "curious kitties". The illustrations are beautiful and give a real sense of what her cats looked like. I think it is a lovely story with lovely illustrations for both adults and kids alike".
Bell Hawkins says, "I'm thrilled and honoured to receive these awards and I know that Dwight Kirkland, who did the beautiful illustrations, is too. It was a true collaboration. Really, we both created the book, along with Goose Lane Editions art director and designer, Julie Scriver who also played a very important role.
